Pulse wins DRILLASSURE contract

Pulse Structural Monitoring, an Acteon Company, has won a contract to supply its DrillASSURE drilling riser monitoring system to a contractor operating in East Africa. The contractor was faced with challenging environmental conditions, especially high current speeds throughout the water column.

In response to these issues, Pulse provided a system to meet these challenges and improve assurance and confidence in the drilling operations. The DrillASSURE monitoring system included sensors to accurately capture lower flexjoint angle differential, rotation, inclination and riser vibration (VIV). In addition, full water column ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler) equipment was installed in order to provide a record of water current.

The DrillASSURE system will provide a global understanding of the riser and wellhead performance under severe conditions. Furthermore, it will provide invaluable information to measure and quantify fatigue damage to the risers and wellhead accurately. The gathered data, especially during severe environmental events, can be evaluated offshore or transmitted to shore on demand for further processing and integrity management activities. It will also provide invaluable information for future drilling operations in similar conditions.

Pulse Operations Manager, Wolfgang Ruf commented, “The client was impressed with Pulse’s exemplary record of reliability and capacity to deliver a complex system to meet their requirements in a short time frame.”

Pulse Managing Director, Richard Kluth stated, “In today’s environment, post Macondo, monitoring is increasingly important in all stages of operations, from obtaining the approvals through to improved management of operational risk. Operators are increasingly focused on improving the integrity of their operations and monitoring plays a key part in the integrity management process.”

In association with 2H Offshore, Pulse has a long history of providing monitoring system for drilling operations, to enhance safety and improve efficiency. Pulse has been providing services since 1998 and has completed more than 500 deployments to depths of greater than 10,000 ft.
